If your home flooded and you need a place to stay, you have two options. The Red Cross opened a shelter at Wickham Park Senior Center in Melbourne, and the county opened another in Micco that welcomes pets.
In Palm Bay, mattresses and couches lined the streets Wednesday as people hauled waterlogged belongings out. Doreen Reda and her niece, Mandi Gallagher, returned to their Palm Bay home two days after leaving as floodwater poured in. They had been staying at a Red Cross shelter in Melbourne. They found soaked floors and the smell of mildew. "It's heartbreaking," Reda said. They're focusing on what was saved, like the family photos.
