If you live in Brevard, Monday's rain was “borderline historic,” county leaders said, and the water rose faster than stormwater systems could move it. Sheriff Wayne Ivey said crews brought in higher-clearance vehicles for areas where regular traffic couldn't pass.
Rain fell overnight from Sunday into Monday, and the National Weather Service called it a “one in a 1,000 year event” in southern Brevard. The system was expected to move out Monday evening, and county leaders said they'd then assess the damage. Ivey said saturated ground is bringing trees down, which can take power lines with them.
