- ➤ Brevard Public Schools voted on Aug. 12 to ban cellphones and electronic devices in all grades; the ban will begin in 30 days once the rules are finalized—officials say the change will help kids pay more attention and talk with each other, and studies show it may also lower bullying and improve grades. - ➤ Tropical Storm Erin is expected to become a Category 3 hurricane by August 17 as it shifts westward—then turns north away from Florida—and may bring rough surf and stronger rip currents along the Space Coast. Florida Today
