  • Today, crews from Brevard County Fire Rescue Station 42 and local community leaders held a push-in ceremony for BCFR’s newest engine in Merritt Island (a tradition from the days of horse-drawn engines) to honor firefighters' long history and community support.  Space Coast Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Leonids meteor shower peaks tonight from November 16 to November 17 with stargazers in Melbourne expected to see about 10 to 15 meteors per hour under a 9% waning crescent moon. Viewers need no equipment — they should find a dark spot and check the local weather for clear skies.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office will host the annual Shop With A Cop program at Walmart in Viera on December 13 — the event pairs local children with deputies for a special holiday shopping experience that supports families in need.  Space Coast Daily
  • Brevard County tourism tax collections reached $25,957,657 for fiscal year 2024-25, a record 2.8% rise from last year. Officials said hotel inventory increased to 11,438 rooms while occupancy and daily rates fell and they remain cautiously optimistic for fiscal year 2025-26.  Space Coast Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Melbourne’s own Heart and Soul Senior Women’s Dragon Boat team earned a silver medal at the U.S. National championships in Sarasota—securing a ticket to the 2026 World Club Crew Championships in Taiwan. The team, made up of breast cancer survivors and supporters, trains at Oars and Paddles Park and carries local pride.  Florida Today
  • On November 14, YouTube TV reached a deal with Disney & restored ESPN, ABC and other channels for an estimated 10 million subscribers after a price dispute.   • The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team won its home opener at Titan Field House on Melbourne by beating South Georgia State College (79–62) with strong plays early in the game and key scoring from Acevedo-Arroyo and Register.
