- ➤ A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched the SpainSat NG-II mission today at 9:30 p.m. from Launch Complex 40, sending two satellites for Spanish military communications into orbit. The booster was expended for extra fuel while the rocket's eastward path remained visible along the coast despite cloud cover. Hometown News

- ➤ Wendy Nastasi of Holy Trinity was voted Brevard's Teacher of the Week by readers in the Florida Today poll. The poll accepts nominations from educators across local schools and remains open indefinitely for future selections. Florida Today

- ➤ The National Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Melissa will intensify rapidly, becoming a hurricane today and a major hurricane tomorrow, plus it is expected to remain well east of town with only a 5% chance of outer bands touching us. Residents are advised to keep updated as forecasters monitor any shifts in the storm's path. Florida Today
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Kristine Zonka (a health officer and former county commissioner) to the Eastern Florida State College Board of Trustees and reappointed Ronald Howse (the board chair first named in 2015) for another four-year term. Howse has helped expand college programs for a growing high-tech workforce while Zonka brings public health expertise to support students. Space Coast Daily
- ➤ The Florida Department of Children and Families said that if the government shutdown continues, SNAP benefits will not be distributed in November while October benefits remain unaffected. - ➤ The Viera Hawks hosted the Melbourne Bulldogs in a high school football rivalry game that kicked off at 7 p.m. Friday—an event that had playoff implications as both teams built on strong wins.
