  • Laundry of Love will be held Saturday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon at three locations—Cocoa at 1224 Dixon Avenue, Titusville at 616 S. Park Avenue and Melbourne at 1844 Post Road. Families receive free laundry services with donated detergent, fabric softener and bleach, easing daily expenses for those in need.  Hometown News

  • SpaceX launched 24 Amazon Project Kuiper satellites from Cape Canaveral today at 9:58 p.m. after nor-easter delays, and the Falcon 9 booster landed safely on a drone ship in the Atlantic—this mission marked the third time the project has launched while a Starlink mission is set for early Thursday.  Florida Today

CRIME NEWS

  • On Friday, a driver allegedly plowed through a flock of shore birds at Port Canaveral—killing 35 and leading officials to euthanize 13 injured birds while interviewing a suspect and collecting evidence, with one bird surviving the ordeal.  FOX 35 Orlando

CULTURE NEWS

  • Elvis tribute artist Jack Smink will join the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra for Classic Broadway & Elvis on Saturday, October 25 at 7 p.m. at Riverside Presbyterian in Cocoa Beach, and the concert will feature Broadway favorites and hits from Elvis Presley with $35 advance tickets and $40 at the door.  Space Coast Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today Edgewood Jr./Sr. High School in Merritt Island is hosting Team 801's Sponsor Night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the robotics lab—students will show current projects and explain how sponsor support helps the robotics program while refreshments are served.  Space Coast Daily
  • EFSC held its grand opening today for the new Center for Innovative Technology Education on the Melbourne campus (31,500 square-foot, $20 million).  Florida Today

  • Melbourne Beach’s Chauncey Robinson won the $5,000 Ron Jon Men’s Pro while Indialantic’s Daya McCart won the equal-paying Women’s Pro at Cocoa Beach during the three-day NKF Rich Salick Pro-Am Surf Festival—where five Brevard County surfers competed and funds were raised for the National Kidney Foundation of Florida.  Florida Today
