COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 2025 Annual Community Forum will be held on Thursday, October 9 from 6—8 p.m. at Front Street Civic Center in Melbourne and will give residents a chance to speak with officials from the judicial system, law enforcement, and local government to build trust and strengthen community ties.  Space Coast Daily
  • Indian River Lagoon Day will take place on October 18 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Front Street Park, 2210 Front Street in Melbourne with free admission and fun activities including environmental exhibits, live music, food trucks, games, and a Hook Kids on Fishing clinic for children between 5 and 15. Raffles will run at 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. and a rain barrel workshop will occur from 1 to 1:30 p.m. (free barrels are available on a first-come, first-served basis).  Space Coast Daily
  • MaxOut Church at 1106 W.H. Jackson St. has become a hub for local STEM learning under Pastor Leo R. Stoney and member Shaquann McMullin — the church hosted summer courses in math, writing, and robotics and organized a field trip to the Melbourne Flight Training Center that inspired youth. It will soon offer a six-week ACT-SO course for high school students, and community partners are invited to support these efforts.  Hometown News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Brunswick Corp is strengthening its Merritt Island plant by moving production from Reynosa and Flagler Beach to U.S. facilities and expects to create more than 200 jobs. The company will spend 5 million dollars on upgrades and complete the shift by summer 2026 & work with local partners to help staff transition.  Space Coast Daily

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On September 20, 39 volunteers cleaned up Ballard Park in Melbourne by removing 1,401 pieces of trash weighing 477 pounds—an effort organized under the International Coastal Cleanup program.  Space Coast Daily
  • The National Hurricane Center said the Fujiwhara effect is making forecasts difficult for Hurricane Humberto and Invest 94L — Humberto strengthened on September 26 and may intensify into a Category 4 storm over the weekend while Invest 94L near the Bahamas is expected to become a tropical depression, which could bring wind, rain and storm surge to parts of the southeast U.S. coast.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Town of Melbourne Beach Commission signed a proclamation declaring Fire Prevention Week from October 5 to 11, 2025—its theme 'Charge into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home' urges residents to use, charge and recycle batteries safely to reduce fire risks. Residents will see educational programs and safety tips during the week.  City of Melbourne Beach
  • On Friday the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference with ICE and the Florida Highway Patrol to announce its One-Way Ticket operation—designed to target illegal immigrants who commit crimes and risk community safety.  Space Coast Daily
  • The West Melbourne Police Department invites locals to Cone with a Cop on Tuesday, September 30 from 4–6 p.m. at McDonald’s in Hammock Landings—235 Palm Bay Road—so community members can enjoy a free ice cream cone and chat with officers.  Space Coast Daily

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Four Star Real Estate will host a 'What is IRCC & Can I Live There?' presentation on Oct 7 at 1:00 p.m. at One Senior Place, 8085 Spyglass Hill Road in Viera, where locals will learn about Indian River Colony Club— a gated 55 community for veterans with nearly 800 homes and full resort-style amenities.  Hometown News

  • Nine high school football games are scheduled tonight in Brevard County, including four district matchups such as Melbourne hosting Kissimmee Osceola—where the game start is delayed until 7 p.m.—with other contests set at Rockledge, Eau Gallie, South Fork, and Merritt Island.
