  • Crosswinds Youth Services is hosting its 27th Annual Great Brevard Duck Race on October 11 at 3:30 p.m. Live on Space Coast Daily, thousands of rubber ducks will race for prizes while each $10 duck adoption supports emergency services for local youth & funds life-changing programs.  Space Coast Daily
  • United Way of the Space Coast launched its 2025 fundraising campaign today with a target of raising $4.5 million—aiming to benefit local services.  Florida Today
  • Space Coast Pride Fest is set to take place this weekend in downtown Melbourne with a parade beginning at 11 a.m. on Strawbridge Ave and a festival from noon to 6 p.m. on E. New Haven Ave, with last year's event drawing over 25,000 people; a September 25 City Council meeting saw residents express concerns that provocative drag performances may not be suitable for children—officials say the free event is open to all families.  Florida Today

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Florida’s minimum wage will increase by one dollar on Sept. 30 — non-tipped workers will earn $14 an hour and tipped workers $10.98 as the state follows its plan to reach $15 by 2026; business groups worry that the rises may lead to higher prices or job cuts.  Florida Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Manatee deaths have risen in Florida as Brevard County saw 109 fatalities and Volusia County 31 so far this year, according to the Save the Manatee Club. Dr. Patrick Rose said boating collisions (up nearly 100 from last year) and unknown causes are driving the increase, and rescue teams continue to help injured animals (26 saved from boating incidents so far).  News 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A proposal to rename Cypress Avenue (from Eau Gallie Boulevard to Orange Street) as Charlie Kirk Lane failed to pass at a Melbourne city council meeting on Wednesday. Mayor Paul Alfrey had suggested the change, but his plan received support from only one council member (critics noted Kirk had no local ties).  News 6
