BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nordstrom Rack is hiring for its new Brevard County store at The Avenue Viera, which will open October 16 in the former Bed Bath and Beyond space—positions include sales associates, cashiers and stock department employees with health benefits. Applicants can apply on The Avenue Viera website as the store readies for a preview event on October 14 and grand opening festivities starting at 8 a.m.  Florida Today
  • SpaceX is upgrading its operations with new infrastructure and plans to launch over 100 Falcon 9 rockets from the Space Coast this year while preparing for future Starship flights by building its own fuel production—these improvements will help reduce disruptions during launches. The company is working closely with NASA and the FAA to achieve airport-like operations at Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral.  News 6
  • Amazon confirmed plans to open an operations facility in West Melbourne after purchasing 90 acres, and the project will create hundreds of future jobs as planning advances.   • South Melbourne residents are gathering today at 5 p.m. at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library for a vigil to honor victims of homicide and gun violence including 27-year-old Craig S. Dewberry Jr.—a social media influencer killed during a store robbery—and 2-year-old Bles’syn Lightner who was fatally shot in her home.  Florida Today

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Florida’s minimum wage will increase by $1 on September 30, raising non-tipped pay from $13 to $14 and tipped pay from $9.98 to $10.98. This change is part of a voter-approved amendment—expected to grow the wage to $15 by 2026.  Florida Today

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sept. 19, high school football games in Brevard County ended with wins for Eau Gallie, Melbourne, Merritt Island, Cocoa Beach, and Viera as strong teams delivered key victories including Melbourne's 59-7 road win against Palm Bay. Close contests saw last-minute scores for teams like Merritt Island and Cocoa Beach, and upcoming district games will test these efforts further.  Florida Today
  • Eau Gallie football beat Cocoa 25-13 on Sept. 19—Xavier Lherisse discussed the win and said the team will build on their efforts in the next game.  Florida Today
  • The Astronaut War Eagles hosted the Holy Trinity Tigers Friday night in Titusville with each team holding a 3-1 record and a 7 p.m. kickoff on Space Coast Daily TV – Astronaut had recently won 24-6 over Space Coast while the Tigers secured two consecutive shutouts.  Space Coast Daily
