- ➤ Eastern Florida State College Foundation named two new board members — Jamara Harvin and Heather Hickman — to join its board with Randy Coleman, Mel Mills, George Roman and Natasha Spencer. Harvin owns a cleaning company in Rockledge while Hickman is chief experience officer at Community Credit Union and both support education efforts. Space Coast Daily
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ St. John's River Water Management District set a prescribed fire in west-Brevard at the Three Forks Conversation Area to clear fuel for wildfires. The burn is part of an effort to reduce wildfire risk as dry conditions continue. Florida Today
- ➤ Brevard County officials reported that on Wednesday Tropical Storm Gabrielle had 50 mph winds and was tracking at 14 mph over open Atlantic waters. Officials say they will monitor the storm closely—urging residents to review their hurricane plans as the active season continues. Space Coast Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Brevard Public Schools worked with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office to install smart cameras on about 400 school buses that record drivers who illegally pass a stopped bus — officials said the videos are reviewed before mailing a $225 ticket to the vehicle owner. School and sheriff’s representatives said the move aims to keep students safe. WFTV 9
- ➤ A court ruling made open carry legal on Sept.15 and all county sheriffs have been told not to arrest residents carrying firearms legally — the change will take effect in north Florida on Sept.25 while other gun laws remain in force. Florida Today
