COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Haunted Jail Trail—scheduled for October 16-18 and 24-25—will offer a twisty walk through the woods behind the Brevard County Jail to raise funds for local first responders and community charities. Tickets cost $20 per person and food trucks will be available during the event.  Space Coast Daily
  • Joe Lee Smith (89), a respected Brevard educator and community leader who served on the Rockledge City Council for over 30 years, was laid to rest in Cocoa on September 13 as hundreds gathered to honor his legacy. Eastern Florida State College announced a new presidential scholarship in his name to cover a student’s tuition, fees and books for a full year.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Melbourne has closed the south and middle boat ramps at Front Street Park — due to high water levels that can cause strong currents and damage to the ramps. The North ramp remains open while officials monitor conditions and plan to reopen the other ramps when water levels drop to a safe level.  Space Coast Daily

SPORTS NEWS

  • Eau Gallie will host The First Academy at Commodore Stadium Friday with kickoff at 7 p.m. — the game marks their first meeting this season and will air live on Space Coast Daily.  Space Coast Daily
  • On Friday, Sept. 12 — the Astronaut War Eagles beat the Space Coast Vipers in Week 5 of the high school football season with key plays that led to the win.  Florida Today
  • Brevard County high school football teams finished Week 4 with a mix of wins and losses that set up competitive games for Week 5. Melbourne beat Palm Beach Christian 67 to 0 + results from Eau Gallie, Merritt Island, Cocoa and others showed diverse outcomes.  Space Coast Daily
