- ➤ SpaceX is planning to launch its massive Starship rocket from Launch Complex 39A and is building a new tower at Kennedy Space Center to support up to 44 annual missions. Federal officials are reviewing public comments until Sept 22nd—local residents worry that nighttime booster landings could disturb up to 42% of the community while nearby beaches and ports might face disruptions. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Brevard Public Schools and the teachers union tentatively agreed on a three-year contract that gives teachers a 2% raise each year and lowers healthcare deductibles for those on gold and silver plans. The deal also offers extra payments for school psychologists and teachers with advanced degrees — supporting educators across the district — and was reached on September 2. Florida Today

- ➤ On Sept. 3, the FAA looked at SpaceX’s plan to launch and land up to 44 Starships and boosters from Kennedy Space Center and said the operations may delay flights by 40 minutes to 2 hours because of temporary airspace hazard zones—impacting many flights during busy times. Aviation officials and a pilot union raised worries at the meeting, while local airline staff said Melbourne airport has not seen any delays. Florida Today
- ➤ The FAA finalized an environmental assessment that lets SpaceX more than double its Falcon 9 launches from the Space Coast, so the company will be able to fly up to 120 missions a year from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The approval—pending further clearances from the U.S. Air Force—also allows SpaceX to build a new landing zone for up to 34 booster recoveries annually. FOX 35 Orlando

- ➤ On Friday, Sept. 5, four Brevard high schools (Viera, Eau Gallie, Palm Bay, and Melbourne) won their Week 3 games by beating Astronaut 40-14, Heritage 16-12, Cocoa Beach 34-18, and University 34-16 respectively. Other SSAA games saw wins for teams such as Bayside, Holy Trinity, and Satellite, and several teams will face new opponents in Week 4 (including Viera in Titusville and Melbourne at home).
