  • On Saturday, Sept.6, Space Coast Honor Flight will fly 50 veterans from Melbourne Orlando International Airport to Washington, D.C. in an Allegiant Air charter that shortens the travel time for elderly passengers.   • Melbourne police said Tuesday that a shooting inside a home on Poplar Lane on Friday night left 2-year-old Bles’Syn Lightner dead and injured a 54-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman — investigators are pursuing active leads.  News 6

  • Health First approved a master plan to expand Viera Hospital by doubling its bed capacity to 214 and enhancing emergency, surgical, and cardiac care. The hospital will roll out expansion projects over the next 18 months—boosting services after Orlando Health’s Rockledge Hospital closed.  News 6

  • Readers can vote online for the PuroClean of Melbourne Girls Athlete of the Week—nominees include Anna Ely, Hannah Hall, Lily Ruda, Kate Segre-Lewis and Isabella Williamson based on performances from Aug. 25-30; voting began Tuesday morning and will close at noon Friday, Sept. 5 with one vote allowed per device each hour.  Florida Today
