  • Hurricane Erin's winds dropped to 125 mph early Sunday, making it a Category 3 storm that is growing in size—officials say dangerous surf and rip currents will hit Florida beaches—from today until August 21.  Florida Today
  • Veteran storm tracker Mike Boylan urged Brevard County residents to prepare early for tropical storms by stocking up on essentials like high-capacity battery packs, fuel, water, and waterproof document storage—he advised using trusted local TV updates and the BEACON safety app to avoid shortages and delays during severe weather. His message stressed that waiting until a storm is close could lead to fuel shortages, long lines, and dangerous conditions.  Hometown News
  • The Vision of the Seas cruise ship stopped at Port Canaveral today to avoid Hurricane Erin and change its course from a planned Bermuda visit—passengers stayed calm as the vessel sought shelter from the storm.   • On August 12, 2025, just before 9 p.m., a Vulcan Centaur rocket launched from SLC-41 at Cape Canaveral carrying USA-554, a top secret satellite, and Navigation Technology Satellite 3 that boosts GPS signals. The mission was the first national security flight for the Vulcan rocket and its bright flame lit the sky—showing a new tool for U.S. security.  Hometown News

  • 71-year-old local cyclist Preston Edelstein completed a 3,438-mile journey from the Pacific in California to the Atlantic near Savannah after leaving Melbourne on May 14, facing harsh weather, fatigue, and personal loss while relying on the kindness of strangers—he is now back home and plans to ride frequently.  Florida Today

  • Eastern Florida State College runners traveled to Orlando for the Track Shack Celebration of Running 5K hosted by AdventHealth, where Joshua Marrero finished in 17 minutes and 35 seconds to earn 19th place overall and 3rd in his division, Pedro Sanchez completed the race in 20 minutes and 24 seconds placing 80th overall, and Jason Roldan finished in 25 minutes and 42 seconds to secure 5th place in his division—demonstrating strong effort at the event.  Space Coast Daily
