- ➤ In West Melbourne on July 23, 22-year-old Jeremyah Campbell shot his grandparents—83-year-old George White, a retired Army veteran and civil rights leader, and 81-year-old Mary White, a retired Sunday school teacher—after an argument, and he is now jailed on two counts of second-degree murder. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The National Hurricane Center says two tropical depressions may form later this week or over the weekend—one near Florida and another from a tropical wave in the central Atlantic. Tropical Storm Dexter, currently north of Bermuda, is expected to strengthen before dissipating and to raise local surf and rip current risks along the coast. Florida Today
- ➤ Tropical Storm Dexter weakened overnight and is forecast to strengthen as a post-tropical cyclone in a couple of days, bringing 2 to 4 feet surf and a moderate risk for rip currents along the Atlantic coast. Forecasters say the storm will reach up to 50 mph winds as it moves northeast away from the U.S. — its center is currently 345 miles north of Bermuda. Florida Today
