  • On July 18, the Melbourne Fire Department held its Awards and Promotions Ceremony to honor firefighters for their skill and heroism, awarding promotions and swearing in new members. Battalion Chief Craig Bailey (recognized as Firefighter of the Quarter for the first quarter) and Lt.   • Florida Tech has withdrawn from a $10,019 study in Cape Canaveral—citing cost and a narrow scope—for monitoring rocket launch noise on nearby buildings, and the university noted that a more robust study would need to cost over $100,000.  Florida Today
  • The Florida Highway Patrol celebrated the graduation of 32 new recruits from the 154th Basic Recruit Class and Transitional Recruit Class XX after completing rigorous training that began on January 13; the troopers will work with Field Training Officers for 10 to 14 weeks before going solo & officials said the training in defensive tactics, firearms, vehicle operations and first aid prepared them well for duty & they are set to help keep roads safe for residents and visitors.  Space Coast Daily

  • Lake Mary Little League won the state championship by shutting out Bayshore 10-0 at Tim Wakefield Park in Melbourne on July 20, marking its third consecutive win.
