- ➤ Lorenzo Leming was arrested last night after a traffic stop led officers to find 29.15 grams of cocaine and extra drugs on his person — he now faces trafficking charges in Brevard County. Space Coast Daily
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Melbourne announced that $1.5 million from the state budget will fund two downtown projects—$1 million for the Downtown Core Streetscape improvements and $500,000 for the Front Street Boat Dock Replacement with ADA upgrades. The streetscape design was completed in 2024 and the boat dock design is set to finish this summer with construction beginning in early 2026—award notifications are expected at the end of September. - ➤ At the Brevard County Mosquito Control facility in Cocoa, workers raise eastern mosquitofish — Gambusia holbrooki — at a hatchery to be released in standing water around the county to eat mosquito larvae. The county uses the fish as a natural method to reduce local mosquito populations. Florida Today
- ➤ On July 18, STARCOM introduced Maj. Gen. James Smith as its new commander at Patrick Space Force Base— a leadership change that marked a key shift at the base. Florida Today
- ➤ The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office will host its Citizens Academy starting August 4 on Monday nights — offering residents a behind-the-scenes look at units including SWAT, Bomb Squad, Motor Unit, aviation and K9 over a multi-week course ending September 15.
