- ➤ SES and Intelsat have merged and SES will launch two O3b mPOWER satellites from Cape Canaveral on Monday, July 21 using a SpaceX Falcon 9. The new satellites will boost its broadband service and help it compete with Starlink and Project Kuiper (CEO Adel Al-Saleh said the merger creates a strong competitor). Florida Today

- ➤ Florida senators Rick Scott and Ashley Moody reintroduced the Flood Insurance Relief Act on July 18 (to offer a non-refundable tax deduction on flood insurance premiums) to ease rising costs for policyholders. - ➤ Space Force Maj. Gen. James Smith assumed command of STARCOM at Patrick Space Force Base on July 18, returning to Florida after an 11-year absence and succeeding Maj. Gen. Timothy Sejba (now assigned as special assistant at the Pentagon). He will lead the command’s move from Colorado as it builds two new modular buildings and a parking lot (with 133 spaces) to eventually house over 450 personnel. Florida Today
- ➤ The Melbourne Airport Authority Board approved the purchase of a 176-acre parcel for future airport development and now awaits final approval from Melbourne City Council. The airport, a $3.1 billion economic booster that hosts major tenants — Northrop Grumman, Dassault Falcon Jet, Embraer, STS, and Collins Aerospace — will complete the deal by September. WFTV 9
