Good morning, Melbourne. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 14th of July.

CRIME NEWS

  • Ryan Samayoa, 30, from Melbourne was arrested after he drove his motorcycle at 106 mph in a posted 45 mph zone along the Eau Gallie Causeway (riding with a suspended license) under a new law (HB 351) that mandates jail time for extreme speeding.  Space Coast Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cuts to Medicaid and SNAP from the One Big Beautiful Bill may make it harder for Brevard students to get free school meals because eligibility will no longer be automatic and families must apply separately when school starts soon; local food banks and nonprofits (such as Second Harvest) are preparing to help more families in need. The full impact remains unclear as authorities work to adjust program rules before the new school term begins.  Florida Today

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • FPL released a hurricane preparedness checklist to help local residents plan for the six-month storm season and build emergency kits while preparing their homes—key steps include reviewing evacuation routes and safeguarding valuables.  Space Coast Daily
  • The National Weather Service said the Space Coast may see up to two inches of rain—and a tropical system might form this week as a low pressure trough nears the coast. Forecasts for Central Florida show showers and thunderstorms today and Tuesday—and if the system strengthens it will be named Tropical Storm Dexter.  Space Coast Daily
