In June, the Indian River Colony Club Foundation in Viera gave Patriot Service Dogs a $5,000 grant to match trained service dogs with veterans facing challenges like PTSD.

The grant also will fund a free online class—Service Dog 101—to guide veterans in learning how to best care for their service dogs.

Brevard County Sheriff's Animal Care Center is asking local community members to volunteer as Adoption Ambassadors to temporarily foster dogs in need, giving the animals a safe home while the center covers all medical care and monthly preventatives (volunteers also receive regular guidance) to ease shelter crowding.
