- ➤ More than 130 new Florida laws will take effect on July 1, including a ban on geoengineering that makes releasing chemicals by airplanes a third-degree felony, a law blocking local control of presidential libraries, and changes to school start times and student smartphone use. The laws also stop plans to commercialize state parks, rename the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America, ban fluoride in public water, and allow alternative execution methods — these measures mark a wide shift in state policy.
