- ➤ Asian needle ants have been documented near Tallahassee and Kennedy Space Center, and their stings may cause life-threatening allergic reactions & severe pain lasting hours or days. Researchers and the USDA warn the invasive ants, which nest under logs and mulch in wooded and landscaped areas, could disrupt native species and reduce seed dispersal. Florida Today
