Good morning, Melbourne. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 3rd of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Brevard Zoo received a new 5-year-old jaguar named Lua from Zoo de Granby in Quebec as part of the Species Survival Plan, and she is acclimating to her Rainforest Revealed exhibit — guests can identify her by her larger size and lighter coat with yellow hues compared to resident jaguar Masaya.  Florida Today
  • Space Coast Pride will host its 10th annual Rainbow Run/Walk on Saturday, June 21 at Wickham Park with a 5K starting at 7:30 a.m., and registration costs $35 for adults and $30 for youth under 12. Organizers hope to draw 1,000 participants and have planned a special surprise for registered runners—this fundraiser supports future Pride events after a cultural grant denial.  Hometown News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At an unveiling at the Florida Tech Vertex Center in Palm Bay, Julian Field of Solar Transport Systems said his prototype solar car INTI, named for the Inca Sun God, was meant to change neighborhood travel and will be available in October. The car costs (about $21,000) and could prevent (81 tons of carbon dioxide) pollution while being built in Bradenton.  Florida Today
  • A federal judge ordered the Florida DEP to halt new septic system permits and require federal review in the northern Indian River Lagoon to protect manatees after decades of nutrient pollution harmed seagrass beds. The decision aims to address long-lasting pollution that has reduced the manatees' food supply—leaving them to rely on less nutritious algae.  Hometown News
  • Brandon Smith of Save Our Indian River Lagoon program warned residents that overwatering lawns as summer rains approach can lead to fertilizer and pet waste washing into the lagoon — a process that may trigger harmful algae blooms and fish kills; he urged homeowners to check their irrigation systems, use rain sensors, and test water needs with a tuna can test.  Hometown News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Lourdes Library is a hidden cocktail bar tucked away in an alley in the Eau Gallie Arts District that offers a literary experience with secret rooms and a quiet, intimate space. The bar serves creative cocktails such as The Summer I Turned Pretty and Florida Man—drawing award-winning mixologists to entertain up to 30 guests at a time.  Hometown News
