ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Brevard County lifeguards rescued 14 swimmers over Memorial Day weekend, with one surfer in Indialantic hospitalized after a rough encounter with the surf. A boat carrying 10 people capsized Monday, May 25, in the Indian River Lagoon (rescued by a good samaritan) and no injuries were reported.  Florida Today

  • The longtime Winn-Dixie at 100 Canaveral Plaza Blvd. in Cocoa Beach closed May 26 and will be redeveloped into an ALDI grocery store opening next year; other Winn-Dixie locations in Brevard remain open.  Florida Today

  • Local weekend entertainment spans Garlic Fest at Wickham Park on May 30, Kids’ Night Out at McLarty Aquatic Center in Rockledge (registration required) and live theater at Henegar Center, along with Dreamland Miniature Golf at Derek Gores Gallery and Saturday open houses at Green Gables.  Florida Today
  • Cullen Douglas, a Cocoa Beach High graduate, appeared as Prefect Nobah in Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu when the film released May 22. The actor (a Space Coast native) thanked director Jon Favreau in an Instagram post, marking his first step into the Star Wars universe.  Florida Today
