- ➤ Bojangles is building a new restaurant at 5155 N. Wickham Road — near Home Depot — as it plans to open its first location in Brevard County offering Southern fried chicken and meals all day. The opening date is not set yet and the site is also close to Sprouts Market and EOS Fitness. Florida Today
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Melbourne Main Street proposed a $3 million park project to revitalize Holmes Park and an adjacent lot by adding an amphitheater, a children's play zone with a splash pad, public restrooms, and a waterfront dock with a gazebo (further design details and funding discussions are pending) to host events without closing streets. - ➤ Florida lawmakers did not pass bills to lower wages for apprenticeships as the state will keep its plan to raise the minimum wage. The current rate is $13 per hour for non-tipped and $9.98 for tipped workers, and it will go up by $1 on Sept. 30 and again in 2026 until it reaches $15 and $11.98. Florida Today
- ➤ Frank Abbate retired today after a 36-year career in county government — he urged commissioners to keep working on needed infrastructure and capital projects. Interim county manager Jim Liesenfelt will lead until a nationwide search finds Abbate’s permanent replacement — the process is expected to extend into the next budget cycle. Florida Today
