Good morning, Melbourne.

Starting May 15, the National Hurricane Center will issue daily tropical outlooks that show areas with low (yellow), medium (orange), and high (red) potential for tropical development over the next two to seven days.

The official hurricane season begins June 1 and forecasters expect an above-normal season, so residents should begin preparations.

Residents are urged to stay cautious after a storm because nearly half of hurricane fatalities occur once the storm has passed, and NOAA advises waiting for official clearance before returning home, avoiding floodwaters, and using generators safely.

Officials also warn that emergency communications may be delayed while the National Hurricane Center prepares to issue tropical outlooks starting May 15 as the 2025 hurricane season nears.

Florida House Speaker Daniel Perez accused Senate President Ben Albritton of breaking a budget deal—forcing lawmakers to extend the session until June 30 to complete the 2025-26 state budget after Gov. Ron DeSantis threatened to veto a proposed sales tax cut.

Many local restaurants are offering special Mother's Day deals, such as buy one get one free sandwiches & discounted desserts, available today and on May 11.

Consumers can choose from fast food, brunch and dining options to celebrate mom in Melbourne.

Mason Denaburg, a two-sport star from Merritt Island whose baseball career ended due to injuries, will join the UCF Knights as a punter.
