  • May 7 was the fourth day of Hurricane Preparedness Week, a day that urged residents to secure windows and move loose items when a storm threatened—officials also advised preparing go-bags and shelter plans while the National Hurricane Center will start issuing tropical outlooks on May 15. This effort comes as forecasts predict a volatile hurricane season with above-normal activity.  Florida Today
  • Florida’s 2025 legislative session wrapped major votes on May 2 with wins on environmental measures, changes for condo associations, and better protections for utility workers as well as medical malpractice families—while proposals such as delaying school start times and banning school cellphone use did not pass; lawmakers will return on May 12 to work on the state budget as the session continues until June 6.  Florida Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Kevin Campbell saved kidney transplant patient David Kerner's life with a stent, and Kerner's strong effort to get fit later inspired Campbell to change his own habits. When Kerner later felt chest pain and tests showed a new blockage, he underwent successful bypass surgery with a team (ensuring careful transplant care) to improve his health.  Space Coast Daily
