CRIME NEWS

  • Two 26-year-old women were arrested in Brevard after a puppy was found starving in a home bathroom—kept without food, water, or veterinary care—and they now face animal cruelty charges.  News 6
  • A knife-wielding man was shot and killed by Brevard County sheriff’s deputies after he confronted them during an overnight domestic call involving a barricaded woman in Palm Shores, and the deputy was not injured.  Florida Today
  • A Brevard County deputy fatally shot a man armed with a knife who charged a Palm Shores home early Wednesday after he damaged property and put a 911 caller at risk—officers placed the deputy on paid administrative leave pending investigation.  News 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Brevard Zoo opened a new manatee rehabilitation center (funded by a $2.1 million state grant) where the first two patients, Churro and Randa, are recovering in a new pool. The center will care for up to six manatees (it is not open to the public) as the zoo works to help sea cows regain health from habitat loss.  Florida Today
  • Brevard Zoo welcomed the first two manatees into its new rehab facility — the space can treat up to six injured or sick manatees at a time.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Assistant State Attorney Rebecca Price was named Prosecutor of the Year by the Brevard Association of Chiefs of Police after prosecuting 12 jury trials in 2024 that led to convictions for serious charges like robbery with a firearm and aggravated assault—she joined the office in November 2019 and now works in the career-criminal and firearms unit.  Space Coast Daily
