  • SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station early Monday morning — the rocket deployed 27 new Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit and its booster landed on a droneship in the Atlantic Ocean.  WFTV 9
  • Last week, SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 from Kennedy and sent 27 Starlink satellites into orbit while an Amazon Project Kuiper launch was scrubbed by bad weather at Cape Canaveral—ULA will try another Atlas V launch soon. At a Senate hearing—space entrepreneur Jared Isaacman said the nation must return to the moon.  Florida Today

CRIME NEWS

  • Deputies in Brevard County said a man identified as Cocaine was arrested for threatening employees at a Subway sandwich shop with a knife—he is facing criminal charges.  WFTV 9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • For the 2025-2026 school year, most Florida schools will open on August 11 while later start times mandated by a May 2023 law will be implemented in the 2026-2027 school year—districts have until then to complete plans as a repeal bill is under review.  Florida Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • Orlando Health will invest over $750 million over four years to build a new hospital, free-standing ERs— and physician offices in Brevard while Rockledge Hospital will close next week— costing other local providers an estimated $44.1 million to fill the gap in care. A community task force of health leaders is meeting weekly to develop solutions for residents affected by the change.  Florida Today

  • Softball players from Brevard County are excelling on the collegiate level as the season unfolds. Melbourne native Jazzy Francik at FSU recorded a 1.85 ERA and a 7 to 2 record — a sign of strong local talent making an impact in college softball.  Space Coast Daily
  • Melbourne Beach Orioles won their fourth title in as many years in the winter session of the Brevard Super Senior Softball League at Liberty Park in Palm Bay with a record of 19 to 1, led by Jim Keller and Richard Garrity.
