  • A Brevard synagogue is distributing nearly 2,000 boxes of special Passover matzah free to thousands in the local Jewish community in honor of longtime volunteer Bob Barnes, who died on Nov. 13th, 2024, and helped feed county children—Rabbi Mendel Osdoba said the tribute also includes free Seder tickets to support those who cannot afford the holiday meal.  Florida Today

  • Donna Bishop was promoted to chief operating officer at Space Coast Health Foundation after working there since 2010. CULTURE NEWS

  • Crane Creek is a $7 million film that will show the story of three freed slaves who founded the community that became Melbourne after the Civil War, with filming set to begin in Brevard County in April 2027. Executive producer Mark Spates Smith will host two events at Florida Tech Friday—an 8 a.m. breakfast and a 6:30 p.m. cocktail reception—to promote the film and share its research-based narrative.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Brevard County commissioners voted 3-2 on Tuesday to defund the North Brevard Economic Development Zone and end its $3 million annual payment, so funds can go to Brevard County Fire Rescue. County staff will draft a legislative intent — subject to a future vote — to finalize the funding shift.  Florida Today

  • Melbourne issued a boil water notice for customers south of the Pineda Causeway after routine tests on April 10 found E. Coli bacteria in a sample from 1037 Ashley Ave in Indian Harbour Beach — officials said extra samples are being collected and the issue will be resolved within 48 hours.  Florida Today
  • Former Florida State Senator Lauren Book will walk 1,500 miles across Florida this April to raise child abuse prevention awareness and support education and safety programs from her nonprofit Lauren’s Kids—she will be in Brevard County walking from Cocoa Beach to Satellite Beach on April 16. Book hopes her walk will inspire communities to learn the signs of abuse and use new legal protections to keep children safe.  Florida Today
