  • On Saturday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to noon, Laundry of Love will offer free laundry services at four local laundromats in Brevard County, including a location in Melbourne where families in need will receive supplies and refreshments. Eckerd Connects and The Real Church are hosting the event to expand community support — the program served over 115 families last year.  Hometown News
  • Melbourne parents said impatient drivers jeopardized student safety near Suntree Elementary as cars drove on sidewalks to bypass the pick-up line—parents have warned officials about this concern for years—and FOX 35 coverage led the school district to change pick-up procedures; a school resource officer directed traffic during dismissal while officials continued to monitor the situation.  FOX 35 Orlando

  • Brevard County Sheriff's Office K-9 Junny died Tuesday after a long battle with cancer — he served since 2014 as a search dog and agency mascot — and Sheriff Wayne Ivey praised his loyal service at schools and community events.  News 6
  • The Social Security office at 4740 Dairy Road in Melbourne will close on May 16th — saving $263,660 on a $59,697 annual lease — as part of a federal cost-cutting plan. Services there may move to the larger NASA Boulevard office.  Florida Today
  • The widows of two Melbourne firefighters who died from work-related cancer have been denied the $75,000 death benefit that Florida law guarantees even though their husbands already received $25,000 for a cancer diagnosis. Attorney Geoff Bichler said the city should cover legal fees if the families take the matter to court — and he seeks clearer law language to end the denials.  News 6
  • Sheriff Wayne Ivey's K-9 Junny died on Tuesday night after a long battle with cancer. The dog was gifted by the Jimmy Ryce Center to help search for lost children— a memorial service will be held next week.  FOX 35 Orlando

  • Dr. Ritesh Patil of Health First Cancer Institute urges residents to get screened for colorectal cancer because early detection of polyps can prevent the disease and save lives+ he explained that colonoscopy is the most accurate method.
