GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today lawmakers are considering Florida Senate Bill CS/SB 462, a 71-page proposal that would raise speed limits on interstates from 70 to 75 mph and on four-lane roads outside urban areas from 65 to 70 mph. The bill also redirects sales tax revenue to fund aviation projects, construction programs, and revised safety and utility guidelines+ and sets new deadlines for project planning statewide.  Space Coast Daily
  • Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Tim Thomas, a decorated veteran with 23 years of service including two tours in Iraq, is running for Florida Senate District 19. He served on the Melbourne City Council and the Melbourne-Orlando Airport Authority Board — records he plans to build on by fighting for local community interests.  Space Coast Daily
  • Today, SpaceX and the National Reconnaissance Office will launch a classified rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 1:42 p.m. EDT. Weather permitting, the launch may be visible from Daytona Beach to Melbourne—viewers are advised to arrive early due to expected traffic.  Florida Today
  • USPS letter carriers and other postal service workers rallied on Sunday at downtown Melbourne Post Office to protest against planned privatization.  Florida Today

  • The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team won 9-0 over Highline College Friday morning at Titan Tennis Center. They will play a region match against St. Petersburg College at 3 p.m.  Space Coast Daily
  • Eastern Florida State College baseball team earned two wins over No. 5 Florida Southwestern on Saturday. The Titans, now 9-9 in the Citrus Conference, scored five runs in the top of the seventh in one game and will face Seminole State on Tuesday at 3 p.m.—they host St. Petersburg on Thursday at 5 p.m. on WEFS-TV at Bruce Bochy Field.  Space Coast Daily
