  • A rare harbor seal was spotted today in Mosquito Lagoon and rescued by the Hubbs-SeaWorld team; officials will study the sighting to understand why the animal appeared far from its usual range.  Florida Today
  • Brevard Fire Rescue freed Melby—the 7-foot, 400-pound manatee—from a stormwater drain beneath a roadway near Melbourne. The rescue underscored emergency teams’ careful planning and training for wildlife incidents.  Space Coast Daily

  • The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office held its annual awards ceremony in Viera yesterday, March 13, recognizing achievements by sworn and civilian employees and community volunteers.
