- ➤ SpaceX will launch a Falcon 9 carrying 29 Starlink satellites tonight (between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. Friday) from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral, with the booster landing at sea and no expected sonic booms; additional launches are planned later this week. Florida Today
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ NASA’s Artemis II mission, which will send four astronauts around the moon, sits on the launch pad at Kennedy Space Center and faces cold conditions similar to those that challenged Challenger 40 years ago. NASA will conduct a wet dress rehearsal Saturday to ensure safety before the launch. FOX 35 Orlando
- ➤ NASA marked the memory of the Apollo 1 crew (Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee) at Launch Complex 34 as it prepared for Artemis II, which is set to launch in a few weeks at nearby Cape Canaveral. The observance honored the astronauts who lost their lives in 1967. Florida Today
- ➤ Merritt Island residents voiced safety concerns on Jan. 28 about a proposed liquefied natural gas plant on port-owned land near their homes + they warn that the facility may pose explosion risks. - ➤ Experts advise residents to set their thermostats between 68 and 72°F and to turn off ceiling fans when rooms are empty to keep homes warm amid the ongoing freeze. They also recommend sealing leaks and letting faucets drip when it gets very cold to protect pipes. Florida Today
