COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying a Lockheed Martin-built GPS satellite for the US Space Force is set to launch tonight from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station during a 15-minute window starting at 11:38 p.m. ET, weather permitting.  Florida Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brevard Public Schools hosted the 2026 Model Student Senate Program (Jan. 22–23) where nearly 80 students from seven high schools practiced legislative roles and debate as part of hands-on civics training.  Space Coast Daily
  • A Brevard Public Schools bus driver was retrained after a student video (Jan. 21) showed children sitting on the bus floor as it became overloaded. Parents reported that children fell and hit the walls during stops, prompting the district to enforce safety procedures.  Florida Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and CSA’s Jeremy Hansen entered quarantine on Friday at Johnson Space Center to prevent any illness from delaying the Artemis II mission. They will continue training in Houston and may travel to Kennedy Space Center if testing supports a possible February launch (pending final checks).  Space Coast Daily
  • Patrick Space Force Base will build beachfront lodges for military families near Cocoa Beach to offer convenient on-base housing options. Construction will begin later to support service members.  Florida Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • Florida officials announced new infant formula options for WIC recipients starting Feb. 1; however, both current Enfamil and new Similac brands show heavy metal levels above EPA limits. Recipients must switch by April unless they obtain a doctor's waiver (part of a $5M safety initiative).  Florida Today
