  • Chef Toni Elkhouri of Cedar’s Cafe in Melbourne was named a James Beard Awards semifinalist for Best Chef: South on Jan. 21. He credits his parents for building a sustainable restaurant serving Northern Lebanese + Mediterranean dishes.  Florida Today
  • Melbourne Orlando International Airport began as an air mail fueling stop in 1928 when a Pitcairn Aircraft landed on a cow pasture north of Kissimmee Highway; it later developed into an award-winning airport supporting international travel & high-tech aerospace businesses.  Space Coast Daily

  • Brevard Public Schools announced three new assistant principal appointments today at Mila Elementary (Cynthia Dawson), Saturn Elementary (Megan Smith), and Viera High School (Vivian Perez Jones) as the district strengthens its leadership for the school year.  Space Coast Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • NASA’s six small SunRISE satellites passed rigorous testing at Utah State University and will launch later this year from Cape Canaveral + they will form one large radio dish in orbit to track solar radio bursts from the Sun’s corona.  Space Coast Daily

  • Brevard County high school sports results from Jan. 20–24 show Melbourne Central Catholic girls soccer won 8–0 over John Carroll Catholic — while boys soccer and basketball games featured close contests and standout local performances, with detailed scores recorded in each district quarterfinal.   Florida Today
  • At the CCC tournament in Brevard County — the Melbourne Bulldogs edged Palm Bay 61-57 to win the title while the Bayside Bears beat Viera 51-29 to secure their championship wins.  Space Coast Daily
