  • Brevard County Firefighters Benevolent Association will host its 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off in Cocoa Village on Sunday, Jan. 11 from 1 to 4, giving residents a chance to sample different chili recipes and enjoy family-friendly activities (including raffles and meeting local firefighters) while supporting their first responders.  Space Coast Daily

  • SpaceX will launch 29 Starlink satellites on Thursday (Jan. 8) from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station between 1:29 p.m. and 5:29 p.m. The Falcon 9 booster is expected to land on the drone ship Just Read the Instructions in the Atlantic.  Florida Today
  • On Sunday, Jan. 4, SpaceX launched the Starlink 6-88 mission from Cape Canaveral using a Falcon 9 that carried 29 satellites & saw its first-stage booster successfully recovered on a drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean, marking the year’s first orbital launch.  Space Coast Daily

  • The Space Coast Renaissance Fair is debuting at Space Coast Daily Park (5775 Stadium Parkway) beginning Saturday, Jan. 10, with events running until Sunday, Jan. 11 and the following weekend Jan. 17-18.   • Researchers confirmed that grass clippings released nutrients causing algae blooms and harming seagrass in the Indian River Lagoon, according to an ORCA experiment on Jan. 5. Homeowners are urged to bag clippings and plant native landscaping (to protect local waterways).  FOX 35 Orlando

  • Kathleen Jaromin, a trainer at Health First Pro-Health & Fitness Center in Viera, says the 10,000-step rule is a myth and that even 6,000 to 7,000 steps a day can boost health + regular strength training is key.
