SAMI & HOOCHA
A Deep Dive into Light, Shadow & Andean Energetics
SAMI & HOOCHA is an immersive class exploring the relationship between light and shadow, creation and heaviness, expansion and fear through the lens of Andean shamanic teachings associated with the Q’ero tradition of Peru.
This class moves beyond the simple idea of “positive energy” and “negative energy.” Instead, students will explore a deeper cultural and energetic perspective of how energy moves through us, affects us, teaches us, and influences our relationship with ourselves, others, nature, and the sacred.
In Andean teachings, Sami is often understood as refined, nourishing, life-giving energy—the energy of connection, creation, beauty, harmony, and relationship with the sacred.
Hoocha refers to heavier or denser energy—the weight that can accumulate through fear, suffering, unresolved experiences, emotional burdens, and disconnection.
Hoocha is not viewed simply as something bad or evil. It is something we can recognize, understand, work with, and transform.
This class will explore both energies in depth and invite students to understand how shadow and light can each become teachers.
Experiencing the Teachings
This will not be an intellectual class alone.
Students will participate in a guided journey designed to experience these energies directly —exploring Sami, Hoocha, light, shadow, creation, heaviness, and the places within ourselves where each may be present.
We will also incorporate somatic awareness and feeling-based practices to help students better understand how energy, emotions, fear, expansion, and connection may be experienced through the body.
The body often recognizes something before the mind has words for it.
By learning to notice sensations, tension, openness, movement, resistance, warmth, heaviness, or expansion, students can begin developing a deeper relationship with their own internal energetic language.
Rather than only asking, “What do I think?” we begin learning to ask:
“What am I feeling?”
“Where do I feel it?”
“What is my body showing me?”
Through journeying, reflection, somatic awareness, and discussion, students will be encouraged to experience the teachings rather than simply memorize them.
We Will Explore
• Sami — refined, nourishing and life-giving energy
• Hoocha — heaviness, density and accumulated energetic weight
• Light, creation, and connection with the sacred
• Shadow, fear, and the parts of ourselves we may avoid
• How emotional experiences can influence our energetic world
• Indigenous perspectives on reciprocity, relationship, and energetic balance
• How heaviness may be transformed rather than rejected
• How Sami may be cultivated and received
• Recognizing energetic sensations within the body
• Using somatic awareness to better understand ourselves
• Guided journeying into the experience of light and shadow
• Understanding both darkness and light as part of transformation
Who Is This Class For?
SAMI & HOOCHA is appropriate for all levels—from complete beginners to advanced practitioners.
Beginners will receive a strong foundation in these Andean concepts, while experienced practitioners will have an opportunity to move beyond simple definitions and explore the teachings through a deeper cultural, energetic, and experiential perspective.
This is more than a class about “good energy” and “bad energy.”
It is an exploration of what nourishes us, what weighs upon us, what we fear, what we create, what our bodies communicate—and how greater awareness can help us know ourselves more deeply.
Come prepared to learn, journey, feel, experience, and explore both the shadow and the light.

About Your Teacher — Shannon Davis, Apu Mama Aku
Shannon Davis, known in her spiritual work as Apu Mama Aku, is the owner and lead teacher of Chacana Spiritual Center in Melbourne, Florida. She is a shamanic practitioner and educator whose work is rooted in Andean-inspired energetic practices, Mesa teachings, ceremony, shadow work, somatic awareness, and the relationship between the physical, emotional, energetic, and spiritual bodies.
Her teaching draws from her training in Andean and Q’ero-influenced traditions of Peru , including concepts such as Sami and Hoocha, Ayni, the Medicine Wheel, Mesa work, energetic clearing, illumination, ceremony, and relationship with the natural and spiritual worlds.
Shannon’s authority as a teacher comes not only from what she has studied, but from the way she has integrated these teachings into lived practice, ceremony, healing work, and the training of other students and practitioners. Her classes are designed to move beyond intellectual understanding and into direct experience through meditation, journeying, somatic awareness, energetic practices, journaling, and hands-on work.
She teaches with a strong emphasis on ethics, personal responsibility, discernment, and direct experience . Students are encouraged not to accept teachings simply because they are told something is true, but to practice, observe, feel, and develop their own relationship with the work.
Her goal is to help students understand traditional energetic concepts while also learning how those teachings can be experienced within the body, recognized in everyday life, and integrated into personal spiritual practice.
Through Chacana Spiritual Center, Shannon teaches students from beginning through advanced levels, helping them develop a deeper understanding of energy, shadow and light, ceremony, intuition, transformation, and their relationship with the sacred.
